- Founder: Two IRS employees.
Within a few years, concerned businessmen and their wives and The Wives
of the Cleveland Browns established contact with other hospitals in the
Cleveland area that treated terminally and chronically ill children.
- Projects sponsored: Provided
chemo caps to prevent hair loss for children undergoing chemotherapy
for cancer, installed and kept a stock of toys in toy chests in Ireland
Cancer Center at University Hospitals, at MetroHealth Medical Center (3
chests), and at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, an outdoor play
court was built on the roof of Rainbow, and an indoor year-round garden
and tree house was created at MetroHealth Medical Center, cabeling for
an interactive TV system at a Rainbow, a special training room at
Health Hill, turkeys are provided for hospital-bound children and the
staffs on Thanksgiving at area hospitals, Christmas stockings are
delivered and stuffed for children who must spend Christmas in the
hospital, etc.
- Organization: Three committees
are at the heart of The Leprechaun Foundation: The Wish Committee, The
Fund raising Committee, and The Membership/Publicity Committee.
- Hospitals involved: Child Life
Workers, Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, Ireland Cancer
Center (University Hospitals), MetroHealth Medical Center, Health Hill,
The Cleveland Clinic, and Hospice of the Western Reserve.
- Funding: They raise money from
donations as well as fund raisers such as an annual golf tournament,
auction, clambake, reverse raffle, etc.
- Percentage of donations: 98
cents of every dollar raised goes to the children.
